M.Tech. / PGDIIT in Biological Engineering
Our M.Tech.program has been developed keeping in mind the interdisciplinary framework of Biological Engineering, as well as the strengths of the current faculty group. The courses cover topics in Biological Sciences and Bioengineering both such as Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Genetic Engineering, Tissue Engineering and Nanobiotechnology. The scope of the program will be expanded in the near future to include other topics in Bioengineering and computational aspects of biology as well. These additions will include courses such as Bioprocess Engineering, Bio-electricity, Biophysics, Bioinformatics, etc. Special emphasis will be given to understanding complex but fundamental concepts of various biological phenomena, and also on the development of a strong experimental skillset needed to understand such phenomena.
We aim to recruit students with good knowledge of Cell Biology / Biochemistry / Molecular Biology / Genetic Engineering / Neurobiology / Genetics / Pharmacy and /or B.Tech. students from Biological Engineering / Biotechnology / Pharmacy. The broad-based curriculum, along with IITGN’s emphasis on the humanities and social sciences will not only provide a solid foundation in biological engineering but will also enable the appreciation of their learning tower, real-world applications.
The program will follow the general requirements and guidelines of M.Tech. programs at the Institute level, including thecourse work, thesis credits, termination criteria, etc. More details can be found here.

PhD in Biological Engineering
The PhD program in Biological Engineering has been developed with the aim of training bright, motivated and creative students that have a deep passion for research. The diverse academic background of our faculty and interdisciplinary nature of research results in better interpret the action of the concepts which makes it easy and interesting to unravel the mysteries of science and engineering and consequently lead to breakthrough innovations. The ultimate objective of this program is to develop and enhance a thorough understanding of complicated yet crucial aspects of biology with vital inputs from engineering. This would result in strong experimental skills that could be incorporated effectively in real-life applications.
A sample of areas of research that our current faculty are engaged in are listed below. These areas will expand as faculty collaborations begin to emerge and more faculty join the institute. In the long-term we envision the departmental faculty and students pursuing research at all scales from molecules to ecosystems.
