Research Facilities
MOLECULAR AND CELLULAR BIOLOGY FACILITY
The Molecular and Cellular Biology Facility (MCBF) is the home to various research activities in biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology. Some examples of research areas that are being pursued in the facility include study of inhibitors for neurodegenerative diseases, understanding the mechanisms of kinesin based cargo transport and their implications in human diseases, testing of novel inhibitors targeting certain proteins in cancer, exploring the dynamics of CGGBP1 gene, macromolecular and small molecular crystallization and synthesis of novel cyanine dyes for detection of biomolecules. This laboratory is equipped with a multimode spectrophotometer, microscopes, nanodrop, gradient thermocycler, gel documentation system, real-time PCR, FPLC, water purifier, sonicator, laminar flow hood, -80°C freezer, -20°C freezer, refrigerators, shaker incubators, refrigerated centrifuges (low and medium capacities), mini-centrifuges, western blotting apparatus, pH meters, water baths, thermo-mixers, peptide synthesizer, plate reader, ultracentrifuge provided with three rotors for varied applications, etc. Currently this lab is a bio-safety level-1 facility but there are plans to convert it into a bio-safety level-2 facility.

CELL CULTURE FACILITY
Various cell and tissue culture related research activities are carried out in the Cell Culture Laboratory (CCF). This facility is used in conjunction with the MCBF. Research questions revolve around cancer biology and dynamics and regulation of genes. The facility comprises of biosafety cabinets, CO2 incubator, high speed centrifuge, automated cell counter, liquid N2 cryopreserver, fluoroscence stereomicroscope, inverted epifluoroscence microscope, etc. This lab is a bio-safety level-2 facility. Three additional cell culture laboratories are in development at the moment.
Medical Ultrasound Engineering Laboratory
Stem Cells and Tissue Engineering Laboratory (Coming Soon)
C. ELEGANS FACILITY
C. elegans is a small, free-living soil nematode that serves as an efficient bridge between relatively simple bacteria and other more complex organisms in terms of solving the interesting riddles of nervous system and development. Due to its simple nature, ease of manipulation and short life-cycle, it is used as a model organism for studying various aspects of cargo transport within the cell. The research carried in this facility revolves mainly around understanding the eukaryotic motor proteins, the mechanism of transportation of various cellular components, regulation at different levels and their implications in a wide variety of diseases. This facility is equipped with microscopes, bio-safety cabinet, CO2 incubator, freezers, thermo-mixer, autoclave, centrifuges, etc. and is a bio-safety level-1 facility.
